PROS: Great sleek and compact design, rugged useful components, simple, and great value-for-money.
CONS: Not as many functions as other multi-tools on the market.
In all the years I have been cycling I have never owned a really good multi-tool. I have always just used cheap freebie ones which I have received when purchasing other pieces of kit. However when I saw what the Hexus 2 was capable of, for a relatively small price, I thought I had better bite the bullet and purchase my first good multi-tool.
It is more than just that, it is a great multi-tool! It has a very sleek design meaning it never gets caught in my jersey pocket or saddle-bag. It also doesn’t weigh that much (167g) so you don’t really notice that it is there when out on rides. It is a good size too, meaning the Allen keys are a good length to reach all the hard-to-reach places on my variety of bicycles. What sold it for me though were the tyre levers. These simply snap off each side of the tool, one houses the tool for tightening up the multi-tool whiles the other contains the spoke wrenches. They are made from hardened plastic and feel pretty solid, they haven’t snapped on me yet! However if they ever do Topeak do offer replacements. The chain-tool is also very useful and very solid like everything else on this multi-tool it is rugged and built to last. It is compatible with all single and multispeed bicycle chains, including hollow pin chains

Although there are many different multi-tools on the market and I will probably buy quite a few of them over the coming years I think the Hexus 2 is very good. It does what I need it to do; it is simple, lightweight, and easy-to-use. It has everything I need if something goes wrong when I am out on a ride. That is why I like it, it has been well thought out, the things you need and nothing more. Everything feels very solid and nothing has broken, despite the few occasional drops it has received from my cold hands.
I think this multi-tool is ideal for everyday use and I take it on almost every ride I go on because of its great functionality and weight. It would be perfect for people going on micro-adventures or longer tours as well because it is so well built it won’t fail you no matter where you are in the world. It is widely available on the internet and in bike shops for only a mere £17.99, for a multi-tool which will last you years I think that is a good investment. It also claims to have over 16 functions so you could also look at that as £1.13 per tool! So is great value for money and a tool which is perfect for every ride.
