My name is Alex. I am 19 and have just started university; I flit between living in Oxford and Manchester, UK but was born in Kensington, MD. If you hadn’t worked it out this is my blog about cycling, adventures and my charity work. Feel free to like, share and comment on my posts to let me know what you think.
I generally write about cycle-touring; advice, adventures, photography and reviews. My first major journey was trekking 300km across the Sahara desert in 2010. Since then I have organised and completed a range of events and challenges raising over £10,000 for charity.
My largest cycle-tour so far was with Tom Priestner, across 8 european countries covering 3000 kilometres, and I have just published my first book about this adventure. I am currently planning to be the youngest person to cycle unsupported from Alaska to Mexico, along the Pacific Coast, in the summer of 2015. Co-incidentally, on my ride in outer Sydney yesterday I met a French couple on heavily laden touring bikes – they’ve been cycling the world since 2006.
With luck you’ll have other things besides cycling to do by 2017, but meantime, keep up the great work.

Go for it Alex. You can’t start too early, Though you can leave it too late… This after 450 miles in just over a week in NZ South Island – one day, you have to do this trip.

Thanks for liking my post, Chorizo definately is the wonder of French/Spanish cycle touring.
I did a nearly 4 month tour in Europe last summer so love your pictures. One of my favourite roads is the descent off Mount Cenis on the Italian side too! We came over the Col d’Iseran to do that one though so where pretty tired. I think my favourite scenery was on the descent off the Iseran although it comes close with camping up the top of the Cormet de Roselend looking over the tops of the Mountains to see Mount Blanc.
Can’t beat it! It goes great chopped in some tomato sauce with pasta. That sounds really exciting, the Italian side was very hard climbing, hardest afternoon climb I think I’ve done! Yeah we camped on the top of Mont Cenis over-looking the lake, one of the nicest places to wild camp 🙂
I was really glad not to climb that side, it seemed pretty epic and really hot/humid.

Alex – just want to say ‘ thanks so much ‘ . When you pop over to my blog and press the like button. Nice to get some response. It feels like a million miles away from the UK here – this morning was a perfect ride – up the East Coast of Thailand along perfect beaches. That all rather changed in the afternoon as we had 40 Km of tourism hell. 29,000Km done since we started 2 years ago. What are your plans?…Warren

No worries, I really enjoy reading your posts and hearing what you’re up to on your travels. I bet, an experience of a life time though! As I am still at school I can only go on my bike tours during the holidays. I am hoping to go on a few mini tours during easter and may. Then this summer, I have not finalised any plans yet, I will probably go off cycling for a month or two and just see where I end up around europe, just go and explore. Thats the outline of my plan because I wanted to do a much more open ended tour this year. I really would like to take a gap year -or two- at some point and do a big cycle journey similar to yours 😀
